Somatica was created in Melbourne in 2004 as a monthly club night to satisfy those craving the more underground and alternative sounds on a regular basis, quickly gaining a reputation for delivering cutting edge entertainment and top shelf production. Eventually out-growing various Melbourne venues, the Somatica Music, Art & Culture Gathering was born, the first of which took place on Easter long weekend in April 2005 while the club nights became less frequent.

Fast forward to 2011 and over 20 club and outdoor events later, including album launches, national and international artist tours, re-union shows, one off live performances, and club night off shoots. Somatica is now synonymous with creating events that encompass multi sensory, world class music, art and entertainment for the mind and money maker.

Easter 2011 marked the 6th and final outdoor gathering. Running over 3 nights the Somatica Music, Art & Culture Gathering again provided an all-encompassing Temporary Autonomous Zone plan that is also environmentally and socially conscious, from permitted locations, to the use of bio diesel power, composting toilets, recycled waste systems, recycled paper printing, reclaimed art and décor installations and more.

 

For the past three years Somatica has dedicated $5 from every ticket to charity organisations such as Wildlife Victoria, Orangutan Outreach and the Elephant Nature Park by way of donation and sponsorship.

The outdoor gathering ends late on Easter Sunday night with the WTF!?! cinema, first appearing in 2008 when Rich Haridy was approached to program some movies in order for the fun to continue in a way that would allow people to chill out yet keep them entertained after a big weekend. What eventuated was a two hour excursion into the absurd as Rich preceded to bring people undone with his collection of eye twitching, mind melting, psychosis inducing short films. Some will never look at Kirk Cameron & Mr T the same way again.

The WTF !?! cinema was an immediate success and became a prominent fixture on the event program as it continually built on higher levels of visual entertainment

 



A very big THANK YOU to each and every one of you that has been involved or attended any of the Somatica events over the past 7 years. It's been quite the wild ride!!!

It's not all over here at Somatica HQ though, we're just taking a moment to expand and move forward into some different avenues of top shelf entertainment. Stay tuned...
